CPR Ontario Derailment Forces Detours to CN Rail

Winter weather has apparently been taking a toll on railroading across Ontario in recent weeks, as a Canadian Pacific Railway derailment has blocked the Kaministiquia Subdivision west of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

According to reports, CPR train 105-22 was westbound on the Kaministiquia Sub at approximately 22:15 CST when the crew experienced and undesired emergency brake application. Inspection of the train found that at least twenty-five intermodal cars had derailed on the Bonheur Siding, near mile 131, blocking the siding and main track in a remote area.

There were no reports of injuries or hazardous material releases in the incident.

Crews began clean-up early Friday morning and have determined that the line may remained closed for several days while cars are cleared and trackage is rebuilt. CPR trains are being detoured via CN Rail trackage between Thunder Bay, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
