CN Weekend BC Derailments Cleared

CN Rail had its Albreda Subdivision blocked twice since Friday in two separate and unrelated derailments in British Columbia.

In the first derailment, some twenty loaded grain hoppers left the rails near Pyramid, BC, blocking the Albreda Subdivision and damaging several hundred feet of rails. The CN G89351-02 train was westbound on the subdivision at the time of the derailment, which reportedly occurred at 00:15 PST Friday morning. No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials involved in the incident.

Crews worked for more than twenty-four hours to clear that derailment and the Albreda Sub was reopened by 06:25 PST on Saturday morning.

The line wasn't open very long, when at approximately 21:00 PST on Saturday night, CN train M30551-02 derailed more than a dozen freight cars near Thunder River, BC. Traffic had already been substantially delayed from the first derailment and was further hindered between Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver, BC by the second.

CN crews reported that the line was reopened by 10:00 PST on Sunday morning, however the backlog in trains were resulting in delays up and over thirty hours to some trains.

No cause for either derailment was available or determined.
