CPR Montreal Bridge Set to <Finally> Reopen

Service on the Metropolitan Transportation Agency (AMT) Montreal/Delson-Candiac commuter line is to resume on Friday, some three weeks after the derailment of a Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway train on the Canadian Pacific Railway bridge linking LaSalle and the South Shore shut down the service.

Thursday will be the last day commuters use the shuttle buses brought in by the Metropolitan Transportation Agency to replace the train after high winds caused six railcars to tip over on the bridge February 17.

CPR has said that all freight and commuter train traffic will be traveling on the repaired eastern track, which was less damaged, while work continues on the western track.

About 1,200 people use the Delson-Candiac line, but only 500 to 600 have been taking the shuttle buses, MTA spokesperson Melanie Nadeau said. As compensation for the disruption, commuters are to receive a discount on their next monthly pass. The amount has not been determined.
