BNSF Railway Could Locate Shipping Center in Gardner, MO

A new $200 million shipping center may be constructed in the Kansas City suburb of Gardner, Missouri if BNSF Railway has its way.

According to city and economic development officials say the complex could occupy up to one-thousand acres in southwest Johnson County. They
expect a formal proposal this spring.

Trains coming from Pacific ports would be unloaded at the site. The goods would then be either trucked to other destinations or stored on site. The facility itself would occupy about 300 acres, with the rest of the property used for distribution sites.

Gardner officials say the city would annex the site, between Gardner and Edgerton, if the shipping center is built there. A similar transport facility is planned nearby, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the former Richards-Gebaur Airport.
