CPR Crew Shaken After Loco Cab Fired Upon in AB

A pair of Canadian Pacific Rail employees were shaken up after finding the cab of the locomotive they were riding in had been hit by a bullet.

"We're certainly taking this very seriously," said Canadian Pacific Railway spokesman Ed Greenberg. The train was hit by a single bullet at about 07:00 MST Wednesday while it was stopped near Bassano, Alberta, about 35 miles east of Calgary, said Greenberg.

He said the bullet impacted the window frame of the train's cab and the loud noise drew the attention of two workers on the train, who found the bullet. Greenberg said there was no indication the train was actually the target of whoever fired the gun, but railroad police patrols have been stepped up.

CP Rail and the Bassano RCMP detachment are investigating the shooting, although it is assumed to have been a stray shot from an unknown source. "There has been no indication of threats being made to the crew or to the company prior to the incident," said Greenberg.
