CPR Ontario Derailment Disrupts Nemegoes Sub

Canadian Pacific Railway's transcontinental mainline was blocked early Friday morning after an intermodal train derailed just east of Chapleau, Ontario.

The intermodal train was westbound on the railroad's Nemegoes Subdivision when the crew experienced an undesired emergency brake application at approximately 02:24 EST. Inspection of the train's 90-car consist revealed that nine (multi-well) container cars had derailed in a zig-zag manner, blocking the single track mainline about 1 mile east of the Chapleau town site.

Though no hazardous materials were reportedly released, a haz mat team was sent to the scene early on. All of the derailed cars were double-stack container wells, most of which were hauling K-Line containers loaded with various goods.

CPR says that environmental experts are on the scene only as a precautionary measure. There were no injuries to the crew on the train.
