CN Kingston Sub Reopened After First Nation Blockade Lifted

CN Rail says it has obtained a court injunction to end a native blockade of its Kingston Subdivision between Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec.

About 50 Mohawks from the Tyendinaga reserve near Belleville, lit bonfires on either side of a CN track to show their support for hundreds of native protesters at a housing development in Caledonia, south of Hamilton.

CN says it obtained the injunction from the Ontario Superior Court, ordering natives to remove their blockade at the tracks near Marysville, east of Belleville, Ontario.

The blockade shut down CN freight and VIA Rail passenger service in both directions between Toronto and Kingston on Friday, and forced VIA to cancel train service between Toronto and Ottawa as well as between Toronto and Montreal.

Thousands of passengers were forced to take chartered buses.

Meanwhile, talks to defuse the native dispute in Caledonia, about 45 miles southwest of Toronto, are reportedly underway today, but details about where they're taking place have not been released.
