CSXT Derailment Blocked Streets in Lawrenceville, GA

CSX Transportation local train A708-19 derailed in downtown Lawrenceville, Georgia early Saturday morning.

Fifteen cars and both locomotives were involved in the derailment prompting the closure of a highway bridge. A section of North Clayton Street at the railroad crossing in downtown Lawrenceville will be closed until at least early Sunday. The derailment caused damage to two pylons of a state Highway 20 bridge. That section of the highway was closed while state and county Department of Transportation workers checked the condition of the bridge.

CSXT spokeswoman Meg Scheu says that one locomotive and four cars were on their sides. The train of 53 empty autoracks was headed from Winder to Atlanta, Scheu said.

There were no injuries and no evacuations were called for and no hazardous materials involved.
