CSXT Honored RR Police Officer for Breaking Theft Ring

On March 5, CSX Intermodal personnel held a recognition dinner for CSX Police Superintendent Ron Geary, Field Director Bill Laubenheimer and Special Agents Scot Schroeder, Tom Gorman and Art Beekman.

The dinner was in appreciation for an investigation into the theft of five intermodal freight containers from CSXI's facility in South Kearny, N.J., around December 2003.

The team's investigation efforts were so effective that several people involved were arrested as they approached the stolen goods, which were secreted away in Queens, N.Y.

"This team spent many hours of their own time, over weekends, nights and holidays, working in close cooperation with New York City Police and New Jersey State Police to find those responsible and recover the merchandise," said Laubenheimer.

CSX Intermodal President Val Noel issued letters of commendation, citing their "relentless pursuit" of the criminals and recovery of all but a few hundred dollars' worth of the merchandise. The team's efforts brought recovery of more than 7,000 items, including wide-screen TVs and other electronics.

"This team successfully recovered our customers' merchandise using intelligent police work and extraordinary cooperation with outside police agencies," said Frank Sanders, CSX chief of police.
