Western Railroad Discussion > Canadian National in the Ozarks!Date: 10/19/05 17:20 Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: trainmaster While trainwatching today on BNSF's Cherokee Subdivision I was pleasantly surprised to catch a Canadian National unit leading an eastbound intermodal / auto rack train. The train is nearing Verona, MO. The visitor from the north added a nice splash of color to the train, and I felt it made a nice photo. Hope you enjoy the photo.

Date: 10/19/05 17:49 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: cp1400 The crew would probably rather have the BNSF unit. CN units don't have air conditioning.
Also as far as CN CEO Hunter Harrison would have it your caption should read "CN in the Ozarks!" He doesn't want any mention of Canadian in refering to his company. Nice catch. cp1400 Date: 10/19/05 18:10 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: WichitaJct Why doesn't he want any reference to "Canadian"?
Date: 10/19/05 18:40 "Harrison..Canadian" Author: ssafy He thinks it would offend American sensitivities, as
it would seen "foreign". He's only 50 years behind the times. Can Harrison say "Toyota"? I find it offensive as a Canadian. Ron Date: 10/19/05 19:23 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: QU25C GTWFAN Wrote:

If it's one of the IC-sublettered units, then it does have AC. (I can't tell from the thumbnail if it is one....) Chances are you're right though; there are far more "Canadian service" than IC service Dash 9s on the roster! Date: 10/20/05 13:10 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Unit in the picture is CN25xx (2530?) so no AC. Date: 10/20/05 18:31 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: Rail1 It doesn't have A/C but it has high back seats that fully recline if you are lucky enough to get siding time!
Not to mention a hotplate, microwave and a clean chemical toilet! AND AAR traditional style control stand WITH NO DESKTOP controls or computer monitor in front of you! Give me a CN Dash 9 any day. I'll pass on foreign power leading. Date: 10/21/05 08:44 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: GTWFAN QU25C Wrote:

Date: 10/21/05 13:37 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: FECSD40-2 Rail1, the last batch of CN DASH 9's (sublettered IC), have all the features you spoke of plus air conditioning and the upcoming GEVO and SD70M-2 locomotives will as well. I also heard that the older DASH 9's and SD75's and SD70's were to be retrofitted with air cond. as well.
Date: 10/21/05 19:35 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: Rail1 Thats correct FEC. NONE of the CN power I have ever operated has AC. I know CN has been retrofitting the IC SD40-2s with AC. As you mentioned, all new locomotive orders WILL have a/c installed as required by CN/IC contract. Of course those units will be seen more often from Chicago south to N.O.
Date: 10/22/05 07:05 Re: Canadian National in the Ozarks! Author: FECSD40-2 Now it's CP's turn to get air cond. locos.
