I was able to attend the unveiling of the George Bush 41 locomotive. I was really impressed with the presentation that UP and the George Bush Library/TAMU were able to put together to unveil this locomotive. This is just a teaser picture since I haven't had the time to go through all of the pictures and pick the good ones since the light was so terrible inside and it was hard to get good photo lines with all of these pictures in the tent.

The folks putting out the press release sure have short memories. At one point they say
this is only the sixth non yellow painted unit. I can think of 10 right off the bat.
Olympic units, 4 - Gulf war 1 - united way - 1, Katy -1, MP -1, WP -1, Bush - 1.

Mr. Davidson said that this was the 6th instance that a locomotive wasn't painted in Armour Yellow. I figured it to be: Atlanta Olympics, United Way, Desert Victory, Utah Olympics, Heritage Locomotives, and then GB41.

I also thought it was interesting that he described EMD as being Elector Motive Diesel, not Division.

Electro Motive Diesel is correct now; GM spun-off EMD to a private investment group several months back.

So this engine was in a display area not on tracks? I wonder if you could explain how it got in there. Is it on a spur, or was it just dropped in there? If it isn't on any tracks, then how did it get there? I was just at the A&M/Oklahoma State football game Saturday, and I wonder if I could have sneaked a peek now!?

If it isn't on tracks, I would like to know the way it got over there, under a cloak of secrecy?

Wait till this locomotive hits mainline service. Oh the messages that will be wrote on this unit.

Ya all the officials on the UP will be told as part of your E test on train crews check there grips for black magic markers...

I would of painted a ballast regulator or a track tamper in these colors and donated it to him in his name instead of a 3 million dollar engine!!!

The UP 4141 was delivered to College Station via special train SGNCO covered with a tarp. A spur located on the west side of the mainline behind the A&M bus maintenance facility was reactivated and extended with panel track onto the rear portion of the concrete parking area. The unit was positioned at the end of this temporary track and a large tent installed over it. The tent was not very visible from the east side of the mainline due to having a rock train sitting on the siding there. The location was chosen as it provided an area easily secured by police and Secret Service personnel, was fenced and had very limited access.

Several sections of panel track just outside the tent were then removed to allow vehicle access to deliver the VIPs (Bushes and Davidsons) to the rear of the tent so that they could enter the main part of the tent from "backstage". I walked around the back side of the 4141 after the unveiling, and the special events company had 3 large smoke generators hooked up with the hoses running between the ties to the front, or presentation side. The smoke and the pre-recorded horn sounds were pretty cheesy at the moment of unveiling, but guess one has to entertain the masses.

Wait till it hits the main line , I give it three months till it is covered in soot and looks like crap. WHITE ? what were they thinking ?

It will be just a matter of time before someone, weather a UP employee, or from someother RR that will end up TAGGING this locomotive in a display of there political views. If UP was smart they would have used that Griffiti proof overcoat, that the NYC Subway system uses to combat TAGGING.

UP cant even keep a yellow Loco cleen, how in the hell are they going to do it in white?

How about:
"READ MY LIPS....NO NEW TAMPINGS"

Good point, nice looking engine, but yeah, after a trip over the Cascades, Donner, and Tehacipi, it'll look as bad as the rest of their power, can anyone say Southern Pacific?
