Western Railroad Discussion > A Whereisit?Date: 05/03/06 14:17 A Whereisit? Author: samreeves Okay California foamers, let's name the location or better yet the milepost! Bonus points if you can see what's different with this pair of searchlights. Photo was taken in 1998.

If you're on Amtrak and on the UP, it's obvious---the signal is green! :) Date: 05/03/06 15:46 Re: A Whereisit? Author: AndyD Looks a lot like a spot I got a pic of from the rear of a southbound Starlight once a while back. As I recall, it was somewhere between San Jose and Salinas (crossing the hill between Gilroy and Watsonville would be my guess).

Looks like that signal facing the other direction might be a tri-light. Date: 05/03/06 16:46 Re: A Whereisit? Author: dmaffei About three gallons worth? Or $10.05 worth of rail fanning?

Date: 05/03/06 19:59 Re: A Whereisit? Author: samreeves We have a winner. Milepost 150 when SP owned it or what is MP 146.6 for UP today. Also notice the old signal numberboards in the old SP black cast iron style. Today they are bastardized with the vertical white plates. Harlem was one of the last places with a SP milepost marker before UP blitzed it several years ago.

Also, notice the the shape of the pole. It is one of the early redwood poles from the earliest days of the Coast Line. Africansteam |
