QU about commodity carried in NdeM tank cars
Author: rbx551985

QU: I saw a huge number of these NdeM tank cars heading north on Southern Pacific freight trains through Fresno CA in the late 1980s -- and always wondered what commodity they carried. ???:

(If it's a HAZMAT that's otherwise classified, just ignore the question.)

Placard holder is empty, ergo not likely to be hazardous -- though there were certain commodities not placarded then that are now. My guess from the looks of the car: animal tallow.

They were use by NdeM to carry any petro chemical product,
back on the days you could easily see all those kind of
cars around the refinery's in Mexico.

By the way Pemex has some cars were the ends were painted
red or green on both sides.

Walthers did some of those in HO scale long time ago.

THIS is what I suspected. Now, all I'm wondering is what KIND of vegetable oil? Soybean Oil? Corn Oil? Sunflower Oil? Peanut Oil? [FILL IN THE BLANK--] oil? Thanks, guys, for the answers (above AND any to follow up).
