Platte Valley Trolley Denver, CO Final Route 84 Runs
Author: RioGrandeFan

The Platte Valley Trolley which operates along the South Platte river in Denver, CO will be losing part of its line as of Sunday, July 8th. The trolley currently operates on a portion of the historical Route 84 line that once ran to the Federal Center.

RTD (the local transit authority) purchased the line 21 years ago for future light rail use. The time has come to use it for light rail and RTD has already removed the track from the west end east to Sheridan Blvd. The trolley currently stops about 1/4 mile east of Sheridan Blvd. As of Monday, July 9th, RTD will continue to remove the old track working eastward to Knox Ct.

Those of you who would like to be a part of Denver history should take the opportunity to ride the Platte Valley Trolley on one of the final runs to Sheridan Blvd. before the track is gone. The trolley will be making special Route 84 Commemorative runs on Friday, July 6; Saturday, July 7; and Sunday, July 8 from 5pm - 8pm. Trips depart REI/Confluence Park on the hour and the trip lasts 55 minutes. Four trips will be made each evening. The very last run between Knox Ct. and Sheridan Blvd. will depart REI/Confluence Park at 8pm on Sunday, July 8th. Each trip costs $6 for adults and $4 for children.

I highly encourage those of you who live in the Denver or surrounding areas make an effort to be a part of this historical event. You can say you knew the area before light rail and rode on the pre-light rail trolley car.

The trolley will continue to operate as far as Knox Ct. through the end of this year.

The trolley is not going away entirely, it will still operate along the South Platte River for many years to come as that trackage is owned by the City & County of Denver.
