Date: 11/09/07 07:50 Re: Route 66 evening Author: dmaffei Nice photo. Great sky colors. I have to admit, I like the bridge more than the Locomotive personally.
Did you use some floods or car headlight on either side? Thanks for posting. Dave Date: 11/09/07 07:59 Re: Route 66 evening Author: xtra1188w Yeah, that is a good picture! Dang good picture. I too like the Santa Fe underpass featured a bit more than the loco.
Con Date: 11/09/07 08:03 Re: Route 66 evening Author: skyview Please tell us more about the lightning? Did you use two off camera strobes?
Nice shot but curious on particulars, I have been increasing the number of strobes I have (now have 3 SB-800s, 1 SB-28) and pondering very strongly PocketWizards to wirelessly trigger for just this type of lighting. Date: 11/09/07 08:42 Re: Route 66 evening Author: GrandeGold Fantastic image. I've spent many wonderful hours along the Santa in this territory and have driven under this bridge many times.

I've been dying to get the old Lumedyne out and blind Photobob again! Have not experimented with digital and painting with light. Anyone here doing this??? Works like a charm - cheaper and lighter then Lumidynes, too. You loose a smidge of contrast but the scene appears more realistic in most cases. It's rather amazing what you can do with $15.00 now. /Mitch Excellent shot, BTW. Date: 11/09/07 11:45 Re: Route 66 evening Author: alex14ramos It sure is refreshing to see this after seeing what seems like 1000 photos of fake steam and Pennsy E units staged at night on railpics. Awesome photo, John.

I don't know if I've seen any on TO's. I was expecting, and still hoping for more. BTW - if you were there for the Big Boy steam shoot, you'd have been impressed - it looked close to the real deal! While watching (and enjoying) the nostalgia, I got to wondering why no one in the West is doing similar - PRR E's, Erie E's, NYC F's on Metra, Reading F's (finally), ect. More curious as to why shortlines in the West have not bought "toys" to "play" with as they have in the East on routine (vrs single one time events). /Mitch Date: 11/09/07 12:40 Re: Route 66 evening Author: dmaffei Mgoldman Wrote:

I've come to the conclusion that the East coast photogs are a bit more progressive. Just look at some of photos from the steam board...Outstanding Mitch, Can you elaborate more on your painting with light techniques? Date: 11/09/07 13:50 Re: Route 66 evening Author: 3rdswitch BEAUTIFUL John!

I see Nothing wrong with the fake steam and staged E-Units... I actually thought it's rather ingenious to see those loco's "hot" again. That's how they recreate the past...Our Group just so happens to use WD-40 and very large Flying Rio Grande Magnets... -William Diehl Date: 11/10/07 07:27 Re: Route 66 evening Author: CCMF It kinda has that Train Sim look to it !
Excellent photo. Date: 11/10/07 07:30 Re: Route 66 evening Author: HistoryBuff Looks like an HDR image to me. Nice job.
Date: 11/10/07 09:23 Re: Route 66 evening Author: soolinehoghead Beautiful shot John!! Simply beautiful!!
Question..... I spent about two hours standing at this bridge around three years ago trying to get just a "naked" shot of the bridge with no vehicle traffic in the image, and I could swear that at that time all the lettering was intact on the bridge, albeit much more faded. Now granted, with age my memory isn't what it used to be, but has the bridge been touched-up recently? The Santa Fe words and logo seem to look a lot better than my memory is telling me they were a few years back. If I had a clue as to where the shot is in my office, I'd find it for myself and look, but..... Anyone????? Jimmy B Date: 11/10/07 11:47 Re: Route 66 evening Author: ProAmtrak Very very cool! I need to get over there and get a lucky shot like that too!
Date: 11/10/07 14:12 Re: Route 66 evening Author: nycman That is a great photo. In response to the "East vs. West" photogs--We here in the west don't need to fake steam. We have 4449, 700, 3751, 844, 3985, 261, 2816, 2860 and many smaller locomotives which make REAL steam.
