Well fellas and ladies, how is this for a nickname. The "Fire Trucks". After all, the BNSF Heritage locos are "Pumpkins" right. So then, why not call the KCS Southern Bells the "Fire Engines". Since that is what these units remind me of.

Sorry. At first I said Fire Trucks. But then Fire Engine sounds much closer to RR terms.

Any "Southern Belle" who dressed up like that in public would be considered a Strumpet.

"Ah do declare, Mizz Lucybelle, you sure are painted up to a fare thee well!. Are them sailor boys back in town??"

What's wrong with "Southern Belles"?

Been decided in S Central TX. It's "Retro Belle".

Retro Belle to me sounds rather negative.

True, I have heard that one before, too, and it's appropriate. Don't know what would make it 'negative'.

SuperBelle's due to Haverty's Santa Fe background has been heard often.

TacoBelle's due to the Mexican focus of the KCS anymore. They kinda look like a Mexican taco stand, all the odd angles and bright colors.

I like either of those, but TacoBelle's seems most catchy.

They'll be sorely missed one of these days once CP or CN gets their greedy mitts on the KCS.

What is with you guys? "Southern Belle" is the name and it should stick. Close to 100% of the subscribers to this list have no idea what the original Southern Belle looked like.

I recall when Mike Haverty reintroduced the Warbonnet scheme in 1989. Some jerks on the east coast wanted to call them "Silver Fish". Anybody remember that? Hell no, you were all about 6 at the time, or perhaps not even born!

Atta boy...keep it true and simple. Some of this other stuff is just plain silly.

I guess truncating the nickname to "Belle" would also work, as long as it was associated with the Kansas City Southern.

Any other nickname would be as ridiculous as referring to SP's Daylight colors as "rainbow", or "fruit tree".....you get the idea.

Hummmmmmmm, if you listen to the analysts, CP is getting themselves in hock up to their ears just to keep someone (my guess would be UP) from getting their greedy mits on them (CP), and the way things are starting to sound, CN may have an up hill fight on their hands for the J, so I would think they might have an even tougher time getting a hold of KCS.

By the way, I saw KCS (either) 4106 or 4061 (I already forgot. but something like that) bringing up the rear of LPJ 02 19 going into West Chicago yard this morning. I would assume she's headed to Relco or National in Joliet... This is a former SP ( maybe Rio Grande, not sure) sd40t-2 in KCS Grey. I would assume the J will pick it up in interchange tonight or tomorrow.

A couple of friends of mine and I have been referring to them as "Coral Snakes". You folks away from the deep south aren't probably familiar with this beautiful red, yellow and black American cobra. Old saying. "If yellow touches red, it makes a fellow dead". Well, the yellow touches red on the new KCS units so.......

I have a feeling that people ought to get as many shots of the KCS "Executive F-Units" in their current scheme as they can. After much of this new power is out on the road--I have a feeling Mike Haverty is going to decide that the F-Units need to match!!! I think that they look good the way that they do now, but, in light of this transition to a new locomotive paint scheme--I just feel that the writing is on the wall.
