Some Good News from Cumbres...
Author: Lackawanna484

Progress has been made in discussions with the USFS to allow re-opening of train service when weather conditions meet specific humidity and energy release levels for four days.

The bad news is the organization has suffered a severe financial crush with $800,000 of ticket revenue gone up in smoke. Although gifts have been received, many good employees have been laid off for the duration. If you've considered making a gift, this is a good time to send a check

If this is a money-loser it should be discontinued. Maybe buses could be run at a lower cost.

Umm...

Do you actually know anything regarding the C&TS, the Friends of the C&TS or any of the history in general of the C&TS??? Have you ever been to Chama, NM???

Buses??

Kinda defeats the purpose of an authentic piece of historical 'railroading'...

(The C&TS does run buses as part of the excursion service in addition to the railroad operations)

Hey RF, now why would I want to ride a bus? Think a little before you post.

Oh I think the ROW should be turned into a bike trail. Much less pollution than busses and an opportunity for some much-needed exercise.

Well, hopefully the monsoon, which is supposed to start early this year (as in the next few days), will lower the risk factors to acceptable levels, but there's sure not much sign of anything yet. A few showers and thunderstorms for the next week, no percentages given for Chama, a max of 30% for Alamosa. Trouble is most of these "storms" produce lightning and wind but little rain, and a lot what rain there is is what's called virga out here -- rain that can be seen falling from clouds but which evaporates before it hits the ground.

Maybe the Friends should get the Utes to do a rain dance!
