It looks like the weather will be changing fast after the new year for us in California. Get the flangers, spreaders and cameras ready.

The third chart image from the bottom shows the potential for this storm. This by the way is as of today. Things can change as well over the next three days, so keep informed by your local weather station.

A POWERFUL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL SEND A
SERIES OF STORMS INTO CALIFORNIA BY THE END OF THE WEEK. A

ON THE MAGNITUDE OF DECEMBER 12, 1995. ..WHEN WIND GUSTS FROM 60
TO OVER 80 MPH STRUCK NORTHERN CALIFORNIA...INCLUDING PORTIONS OF
THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY. THE STRONG WINDS RESULTED IN NUMEROUS POWER
OUTAGES THROUGHOUT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.

DANGEROUS WINDS ARE LIKELY TO CAUSE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVER THE
SIERRA NEVADA. TRAVEL WILL BECOME VERY DANGEROUS IN THE MOUNTAINS..
IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TOWARD THE END OF THE WEEK.

Yep...it may just be....ROTARY TIME!

When they put up "chains required on 4 wheel drive" restrictions, and I'm in Reno, I stay put. Much preferrable to being stuck in a drift.

Who knows, they might have to run a flanger through the "Trench".

Down where I'm at we worry more about Wind Advisories, dust storms are nasty!

Track might be "tied down" but it should have something beneath it to support it.-BMT

I don't think UP's gonna get the "Big Boys" out of Roseville anytime soon, if storms start hitting that part of the state like it did back in the late 90s, oh yeah, those big babies will be called out!

Heard that one before. Those things usually wind up veering north, so the north coast might take a good hit. The Bay Area will probably get brushed by the southern end of the storm, while SoCal stays high and dry. That's usually how it plays out.

Lets hope the forecasters are right this time. Shasta Lake is up all of 4 feet so far this season. Still 123 feet from the top.

10 feet in the highest peaks mean just that, maybe 4-5 feet at Norden.. still a lot of snow, but no dice for rotaries unless big slides occur

There was a thread a while back regarding Lake Shasta with some pics of the old ROW. Do a search and you should find it.-BMT

The top of it has been exposed but not sure if it's still above the water line. 4 feet may have put it under water, if not it will be shortly. Who knows what we will be seeing next summer if Mother Nature doesn't start dumping on us soon!
