UP Hallam (NE) Branch Questions
Author: cdub

I'm wondering if the UP still leases the ex-RI Fairbury to Hallam branch from the Mid States Port Authority, or if they ever purchased it outright and when? Also, does anybody know when UP built the wye in Fairbury between the Hallam branch and the east leg of the Marysville Sub?

Isn't Hallam the little town that got hit with the tornado several years ago? That might have been enough for UP to say "enough".

Yes, it did get hit with a tornado a few years back, and UP is still running on that line.

Yes, the power plant was damaged but they made repairs and the coal trains have still been running ever since.

In addition to running coal trains UP also serves the elevators at Plymouth and Jansen, NE.
