Western Railroad Discussion > Closer and closer they getDate: 09/10/08 17:13 Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith Cajon Pass, CA
With about 100 yards of track yet to be laid (as of quitting time Tuesday) on the triple track project notable things are happening. 1. The gap closes of the Cajon Creek crossing south of Cajon station (CP Cajon) 2. Tamping the new south track at Cajon 3. More equipment ready and waiting Date: 09/10/08 17:16 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith 4. They're parking like Operators now ... (LOL)
5. It's a nice day, head for the Hill. 6. Looks like double track already doesn't it? Date: 09/10/08 17:19 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith 7. Another one rolls down under dynamic braking, making good speed.
8. Noise from below, manifest for Yermo and beyond. 9. Yet again ... Date: 09/10/08 17:21 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith 10. Take a stroll down the ridgeline to catch a pair.
11. Stacks down the south. 12. Look, there's Big Brown again Date: 09/10/08 17:26 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith 13. EB manifest cruising around the curve.
14. Empty buklhaeds bracketing a lone tank car bring up the marker. 15. Head End power rolling through Silverwood - 1 mile away. Date: 09/10/08 17:31 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith 16. WB SDX with three on the point, two trailing DPU.

Sheesh, almost the exact same angle too. Your sense of Cajon photo spot picking and the Ontario approach UPS MD-11 are as one. Date: 09/10/08 22:29 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith That approach shot is easy, they fly the same schedule but I was out at the edge of the ridge above the north track this time. I usually see them comfortably seated on the bench.
TCS - and benches don't change flight plans .... LOL ps:Mac, the redhead wouldn't tell me about the cell phone in the fryer incident so i'm pretty sure i'm connected in some way (even though i wasn't there). May I assume, TCS, that this train crossed over at Silverwood, since it seems to be on the SP alignment. Much thanks for showing this stuff. Since the Ames boys left the pass, construction progress shots have been few. I'm wondering from your Cajon Station views, if the plan is to bend the current south track below Cajon onto the new track through Sullivan's Curve, and attach the south track from above Cajon Station to the new track south of there? Again, appreciate your efforts. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 09/11/08 12:18 Re: Closer and closer they get Author: TopcoatSmith ntharalson Wrote:

That's because other than tracklaying it's all about done. > I'm wondering from your Cajon Station views, if the plan is to bend the current south track > below Cajon onto the new track through Sullivan's Curve, ... The new track through Sullivan's will connect to the current south track at Cajon. The south track will slide east to connect with the short piece with the red flag at Cajon (the cut line is where the flag is - assuming they do it as it seems to be layed out). Down below the bridge in pic 1 the new track on the left will be cut into the current south track, that will be cut into the current north track, the north track will in turn be cut into the new track farther down layed on the uphill side - basically all three tracks will jog right (looking westbound) and be lined afterward completing this section. As stated by Andy, there's a 10 hour work window for monday scheduled to accomplish all of the cutting and dragging. Hopefully I can get some of it on camera.
