Western Railroad Discussion > Then & Now - Joint SubmissionDate: 10/17/09 02:13 Then & Now - Joint Submission Author: Maxwell Joint submission on Millbrae, California with T.O. member "photobob".
Then - Robert's photo. Taken in 1976, his pic shows SP commute in action with a 76 paint scheme unit leading, great times! Back then rails were SP owned, Millbrae Ave. crossed tracks supplied by crossing signals and 2 gates, and its station had an SP depot. Now - In November 2008, a bridge been built over rails for Millbrae Ave, Caltrain owns trackage from SF to SJ, and an ultra advanced shining lights Caltrain/BART station plus a parking lot is built on the other side of the street. The old depot however, still exists. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 10/17/09 23:14 by coast7. ![]() ![]() Date: 10/17/09 06:00 Re: Then & Now - Joint Submission Author: Jbarton Very interesting. Thanks for showing this change.
Jim Barton Date: 10/17/09 06:29 Re: Then & Now - Joint Submission Author: daylightdon Wow! You can sense the speed in that first photo! Some of those commutes could really move! The Espee put on a good show. At the risk of offending some on this site, I'm not sure CalTrain is as impressive. I miss the peninsula freight action as well-check out the boxcar in the now long-gone team track.
