Discussion board catagories divided by time zone?
Author: pdt

Just an idea here.......

Don't know how difficult this would be to do, or if it would
cause Todd to incur additional costs......

But how about dividing the discussion board by US time zones...

We would have "Eastern Railroads", "Central Railroads", "Mountain Railroads", and "Pacific Railroads"
OK, we could use different names, but the idea would be to divide the discussion board by time zones, more or less. (NOTE: Everyone who wants to nit-pick about Arizona and Indiana, JUST STOP IT RIGHT NOW!
No nit picking...Go clean your garage)

Among other advantages, we wouldn't have the midwest folks wondering which board to post on, and it might encourage more posting on each board. I'd like to see more california posting....and these days, the western board seems to be mostly populated by posts from the Mountain and central states,(Not that there's anything wrong with that!) We could also discontinue the "passenger" board, as recent passenger info could be posted on the appropriate board.

So what do you, as the TO populous think?

Too many. I already read all of the boards, but still miss stuff.

Valid point.

What!? Usually it's too much California for my taste (Sorry Left Coasters)

That would be good, I never understood why passenger was separate.

Overall, I could see maybe three boards: Pacific/Desert, Mountains & High Plains, East of the Mississippi (as the east coast + south + Rust belt/Chicago seems to have lower contributions...).

The forums are separated by class 1 railroads. The western forum is BNSF and UP, and the eastern forum is CSX and NS. We have no intentions on splitting them up. Any smaller roads are grouped in whichever region they belong in.

Also, I like traction/electrical/transit stuff, and the Passenger Trains discussion is the only place now, where such current events fit.

Leave it alone. The present system is fine, enjoyable, educational. You easily can divide things too finely, and create too much fragmentation.

I long ago lost count of how many interesting topics I've come across by chance reading in the different boards, including those representing distant regions that I seldom have opportunity to visit. And for a hobbyist-type site, the informational quality of the postings is often quite excellent.

Keep up the good work, Todd. TO is one of the best special interest sites on the Web. Don't mess with its very considerable success.
