They are all off the BNSF roster, but are now making the rounds in the second-hand market. Connecticut Southern has a few, Providence & Worcester is in the process of getting 10 (and repainting them, HURRAH!), and now there are a bunch on lease to the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic. Don't know numbers or the dispositions of the rest....

The LMX B39-8's leased on a power-by-the-hour
basis by BN(SF) were turned back at the end
of June of 2001:

Defying the odds, some have since been resold
to shortlines.

These "LMX" locomotives are piles of junk. They are poorly maintained, barely run, and stink to high heavens (toilet). I'm glad the BNSF doesn't use them anymore. They were used quite a bit when I was still in service. I hope they stay on other roads or at least in MU'd consists but forget being on the head end! I won't return to service for another year and half. We'll see.

June of 2001 sounds right, last I saw of them was in Wisconsin in May 2001. A pair of them on a MNTWBRC.
