U.P.'s Sunset Route

Anyone hear how U.P. is progressing with its' double-tracking project over the Sunset Route? Earlier I read that it had slowed due to the economy & local opposition.

There was a lot of equipment and new track in the Eloy/Casa Grande area about 2wks ago. They are progressing.

I JUST GOT BACK FROM RED MOUNTAIN ABOUT 1 HR AGO,YES THEY ARE WORKING ON TRACK,LOTS OF TRAINS,ONE WEST HAD ALL NS POWER SD70M-2 SD60 AND A -9 LOOK OUT WEST COLTON.

Looks busy to me each week I am by there. They are double tracking through Casa Grande East toward Picacho now. Always work going on...

There is grading work around Bertram Siding (Salton Sea) in progress, working both east and west from that location.

* SP819 - SP831 (Stanwix,AZ to Sentinel,AZ)

* SP876 - SP918 (Estrella,AZ to Casa Grande,AZ)

* SP979 - S1298 (Tucson,AZ to El Paso,TX)

Why the 2 mile single track at Araz, Ca? The bridge over the river is already double track.

They haven't connected the DT to the old SP double track yet. It might have something to do with grading nearby hills/sand dunes.
