70mph for freight trains that qualify for 70mph the rest of the way east to near Barstow. Generally speaking, passenger train speeds are for passenger trains. Freight locomotives aren't supposed to go more than 70mph, and that is the ceiling for any BNSF train. But what he may be referring to is on the SP, at one time, we had trains that were allowed to operate at column 1 speed, which was passenger train speed.
