Author: bcr4601

Sorry guys no photos but a question.

1 ) train speed for BNSF Jct at Mojave coming off or onto UP Mojave Sub

2 ) Speeds east from Mojave for Intermodal trains are they allowed passenger train speeds or freight only speeds.

25 around the curve and 70 to just past Hinkley, and as to the passenger trains,
not may out there.

Unless the junction has been rebuilt in the last couple of years at Mojave, it's only 10-15mph for BNSF trains there.

70mph for freight trains that qualify for 70mph the rest of the way east to near Barstow.

Generally speaking, passenger train speeds are for passenger trains. Freight locomotives aren't supposed to go more than 70mph, and that is the ceiling for any BNSF train.

True about the passenger speeds. But what he may be referring to is on the SP, at one time, we had trains that were allowed to operate at column 1 speed, which was passenger train speed.

Santa Fe was known for that between Mojave and Hinkley, especially their hot trains since most of their older units were geared for high speed anyway!
