another sunday in soledad canyon
Author: tc

decided to take a little ride up the canyon this morning with a N/B stack train. The canyon is starting to show its fall colors but I am sure the leaves will soon be gone. 1st & 2nd shots are of the N/B 1X1 stack train under soledad canyon rd at the east end of the canyon 2nd shot is the stack train approaching ravenna

In the last photo what you are looking at is the train that is headed South.. in the Old Days of the SP it would have been East. The track is the old SP Mainline alignment. The track to the left in the photo is the new Metrolink Mainline.. the straight rail... to the left of the new mainline is the Santa Clara River which spans several hundred feet from bank to bank..which is out of view...

What a waste of time to make a train 1 X 1.. the engines run in sync. can't see the reason why the Up does this set up ??? same amount of fuel is burned.. actually more plus the time dwell in a terminal and delayed departure... waste of time IMHO

I am amazed that this line has not straighten out some of the curves. Yes it would cost some, but the time advantage would be good....

Hey, Rock... it's the U tterly P athetic ... They make no sense to real railroaders, we know that! We see black, the UP sees white, Daytime is nightime to them... and so on. Your opinion is the same as my opinion!
