UP SD60 2225 graffiti paint-over at Pomona, CA today
Author: PasadenaSub

Determined to catch some moving trains today, I headed over Kellogg Hill and into downtown Pomona on UP's twin LA and Alhambra Subs. The only train I saw was a long eastbound stack/autorack train which crossed over to the Alhambra Sub at Hamilton to go east over the Sunset route.

As part of a 3-unit DPU mid-train, I noticed UP SD60 2225 which had a large scale repainting of the long hood on the engineer's side - presumably to cover graffiti (or fire damage). I think this is the first time I've ever seen a straight SD60 in a DPU set, so one of the other units probably had the receiver gear in it. That's my royal blue Nissan in the first pic.

If anyone wants to trace where this train is going, the lead unit was UP 8726.

Thanks for looking,

Rich

Nice catch, you don't see many standard cab SD60's even on locals let alone out on the road, Too bad it doesn't look so hot!
The train was the KLBG2-04 (Long Beach-Global 2) Head end power UP 8725, 4093, 7819 and as seen here mid-train DPU's 2225, 4285, 8722 with 136 loads-7149 tons-9598'

You caught the nice side of the 2225, Matt. Great pics with better scenery!

Nice! Love seeing long trains with mid-train helpers (DPU) or locotrol. Yes, SD60's are not the most common power on the Union Pacific mainline in Southern California.
