Western Railroad Discussion > The UP in Cajon viewed from aboveDate: 11/11/12 18:46 The UP in Cajon viewed from above Author: oyw Since I wore my hiking boots today, I figured I might as well put them to good use. Here are a couple of UP trains from above, both on the former Southern Pacific Palmdale cut off.
1) An unusual northbound, IDITAX-08 (Intermodal-Dallas-Tacoma-Extra) struggles through the S-curve at Alray behind two SD70M flares, 4945 and 5023. I am standing directly above where the west portal of Tunnel 2 once stood. Seems like a strange routing for this train? 2) The UP and BNSF provided me with a "two-fer" from the embankment of the I-15 freeway. UP 4567 is about to be out-run by BNSF 7297 just below Keenbrook. Note the BNSF is all TOFC, kind of unusual these days, not to mention two trains in a row with SD70's leading. There were a lot of other trains today but these were the most interesting for me, worth the climbing and stickers. I hope you agree, thanks for looking. Love that location on #2, with 2 trains. |
