Empty Slinky on the KP
Author: nwkrailfan

Back on November 4th, UP was kind enough to send a westbound oil empty in daylight west of Salina. I caught the train three times and the results are as follows...thanks goes to SP8595 on the timely heads up, so I could catch this train!

1) Union Pacific 4658 blasts past a empty/stored MOW train in the siding in Ellis, the train is stored and has no power on it...who knows when it will move again!
2) West of Riga now, 4658 starts into Riga Hill in earnest as it continues west.
3) After climbing out of the river valley, 4658 faces undulating terrain the rest of the way to Sharon Springs.

One more...

4) Railroading 2012 style is shown in this photo, thanks to the oil booms in North Dakota and also Colorado, the destination of this train, sites like this are now possible all over the western US. The last light of day gleams off a Union Tank Car Leasing oil car as the train heads west.

Thanks for looking!
