--it should read "ensures", not "insures." The volunteers are not "insuring"( i.e. providing financial recovery) this effort of theirs, they are "ensuring" their river's future by dedicating themselves through action and effort, not via obligatory financial payments. No, it's to keep derailed cars close to the centerline of the track so they don't pile up on the bridge and destroy it. They are called guard rails and will keep derailed wheels in line long enough to clear the bridge. Also amazed at the number of people I meet outside of the area, the state, the country who know about the spill. Mention Dunsmuir and it's the first thing in many people's minds. Kinda surprising since spills happened so many times in the area, I guess it's a sign of changes in ecological awareness.
