Western Railroad Discussion > Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to StocktoDate: 12/10/12 14:59 Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to Stockto Author: odub How does BNSF handle its crews between Klamath Falls and Stockton? Turn at Keddie? Run through? Or is Stockton the crew change point at all? Anyway, if one of you kind folks would illuminate BNSF crew management, I'd sure appreciate it.

I am 99% sure it is only an away from home terminal for employees... Date: 12/10/12 15:51 Re: Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to Sto Author: DaveL Make that 100% sure.....Keddie/Quincy is only an away terminal.
I know....drove the yard van for 4 years........ DaveL Date: 12/10/12 16:15 Re: Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to Sto Author: SD45X Same crews go the SP route when things go to pot on the route, but I missed the call three or four times so I don't know where they stay when detoured.

Keddie is the away terminal for Stockton and K Fall's. It's been busy lately on the Gateway sub, with over a dozen in the last two day's. 7 today and oh...here come's another! Edit;missed DaveL's response,he would know. Date: 12/10/12 18:33 Re: Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to Sto Author: hiline I forgot to mention that BNSF,has assigned ten new Conductor's to Klamath and ten more are in class right now for the K Fall's pool. This makes me think: --some conductors are retiring. --more lumber loads / manifest traffic as the economy improves --more Bakken oil trains coming, to both the SF area, and Bakersfield (refinery down there is being rebuilt for Bakken oil). Could we be on the cusp of a new, busy phase of the Inside Gateway? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/11/12 00:13 by coach. Hi Coach. The first ten Conductor's have been working out of K Falls since April so next spring, some are most likely going to become new Engineers on the sub. Just like you stated, more manifest's,oil train's,grain and baretables are why there needed. On Monday we had nine come through between 5 am and 11 pm. Sunday we had three meets in Bieber, two of the SB's were hugh in a 4+3 configuration with mid train dpu's. One of the 4+3's held the main and stretched from the south switch foul point past the North switch, making it over 8000ft. It was the longest freight I've seen on the Gateway. Bill MP90 Gateway sub. Now that all but just a few miles of rail and ties have been replaced, BNSF need's to lengthen at least a couple more siding's to 8'000 ft. There is only two(Bieber ,Almanor) at 8000 ft,two at around 6700ft(Kephardt,Lookout) and the rest are 5000ft and shorter. That and CTC would diffidently increase the capacity, that is hopefully going to be needed. Three Northbounds, fleeting have came through Bieber already this Morning! Don Date: 12/11/12 10:32 Re: Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to Sto Author: Bob5446 Glad to hear of all the traffic. Does anyone know what the grade at Quarry Road (crew change point) at Keddie is? It always looks quite steep on video and therefore not the best place to be stopping or starting 8000ft trains.
Thanks, Bob Date: 12/11/12 10:38 Re: Question: BNSF Crew Operations Klamath Falls to Sto Author: hiline Bob5446 Wrote:

From Keddie, MP 202,it's around 1.5% to Mp 197,from there it decreases to about 1% to MP 194.5,were it flattens out. Bill. Oh yeah, I got every inch of every detail about the Gateway sub charted, mapped out and written down!
