. . . flew down to New Orleans yesterday (closest decent airport to Crosby, MS) before heading into MS to visit daughter and grand daughters spending last night in Baton Rouge, LA. While I allowed wife to sleep in headed down to the river area where the rail yards and industry are. top: exIC engine facility and yard in Baton Rouge.
middle: a train attempting to depart town on the connector line from Baton Rouge to the main line at Hammond approaching the manual stop sign at the crossing of KCS's main from Shreveport to New Orleans.
bottom: after nearly and hour for whatever reason (I did not bring a scanner) the train finally left town headed compass east into the nice morning sun.

. . after catching the CN train above headed over the the KCS facility in town with only action being a yard job switching the south end of the yard (top) then before leaving U turned in the yard parking lot shooting the nice illuminated sign on the outside of the yard office (bottom) . . . more to come (I think, no telling with the grand daughters!)

The blue Dash 8 in pic 3 is an ex-LMS unit.

In the photos, we see two CN 4-axles, GTW 5859 and IC 9564. Are the numbers unique among all CN locos, regardless of Initial? That is, is there another CN unit numbered 5859? One would hope not, as from the view of a train meeting the "CN 5859", the crew can't see the little "GTW" on the side of the cab.

Something wrong about CANADIAN National in Louisiana.

No stranger than CANADIAN Pacific in the upper Midwest - where they've been since gaining control of the MStP&SSM [Soo Line] ... in 1888!

Try to check out the Huey P. Long bridge across the Miss. River in North Baton Rouge. I think it is the ruling grade on the entire KCS/L&A system.

When was the Huey P. Long moved from New Orleans
to North Baton Rouge?
