This is on the Keokuk Junction/Peoria & Western -- the railroad with the ex-Algoma Central FP7s. They're going to be hurtin' without that bridge, and it'll be interesting to see if they have the resources to rebuild it.

Do we have a picture of the bridge before collapse? It appears to have been a truss bridge. How long of a span?

Here's a view of the bridge back on April 19, 2010. The bridge was built in the late 1800's and that wood piling in the middle of a bridge like this just doesn't look right. I have heard the railroad will rebuild. What they will do in the meantime is up in the air, though.

Info. and pictures about this bridge are at bridgehunter.com under Fulton County.

The KJRY Spoon River Bridge was built by the Bridge and Iron Works of Detroit in 1890.

The bridge does not look too god but considering engines made it there is always the chance that a derailment
occurred first which very often seems the case in bridge failures.

Here are two shots from the east side of the bridge taken on 4/26/10.

Yes, especially if they were the F units.

Anyone have any idea what was in the tank cars? I'm assuming they were empty/non hazardous since I haven't seen any mention of a leak.

Nope. Wrong! It wuz corn syrup.

In any event, it's gonna take a while for the crews to empty those tanks as all they have are,... spoons.
