Iowa Pacific E-9 #9925 Visiting Iowa
Author: CNW8531

I don't have any information on this unit other than it's been set out here for mechanical reasons. I first noticed it sitting in Ames yard about three weeks ago when I went by on the train, nearly throwing my neck out in the process. A few days later I observed it once again this time sitting all alone on the Marshalltown service tracks. Most recently on my last trip east I saw it parked all by itself here in Boone this past Saturday. I couldn't do much about it while at work other than notice it was there and steal a quick glance as we passed on by. I did decide to drive out to Boone yesterday on my day off in hopes it would still be there. It was and here's the shots of it sitting by the turntable. If anyone knows the reason why it's been held up here for several days now and where it's bound once it does leave please let me know. At any rate it's one fine looking locomotive and I dig that paint job. E's really rock!!

First of all, nice work, Angus, thanks for taking the time to
check this out.

I'm thinking this is an ex-BN,nee-Q E8, rebuilt for Metra. Two
reasons: one, the number fits that series and two: no portholes
and look at the HEP equipment on the rear of the locomotive.
It would be nice if someone more knowledgeable than I could
provide this engine's history.

Thanks again, Angus.

I like the way the ditch lights are recessed. That preserved the overall contour of the nose.

What a beautiful engine and paint job. No idea what it's story is, but thanks for the pictures.

This is SLRG 9925, originally CB&Q 9995, built 1954, upgraded 1973

I think most of their equipment travels under SLRG reporting marks.

I saw 9925 sitting in Boone on Saturday and grabbed a couple shots. Wish we knew where she was headed before mechanical issues popped up.

Here is a photo of CBQ 9995 taken from Roosevelt Road in Chicago on July 5, 1966.
