From earlier post, a new shot of a steel bridge, 1 of 6 planned for BNSF-UP-Amtrak-Metrolink track to span the widened 215 freeway east of Riverside. A nearby old ATSF line will also span the fwy. The bridges will move 1000 feet south by a 100 wheel truck, then be placed across lanes by umpteen cranes. Map of 2 tracks.

Yes drove past it yesterday, it is causing everyone else to slow down, and look at it as they have Never seen a Bridge before

These six are all for the BNSF tracks to cross the now widened freeway. Due to weight and other issues, a single track thru-truss is preferred. The plan is two install TWO seperate bridges, each consists of two thru-truss spans just east (railroad south) of the existing BNSF double track bridge. Once the two main tracks have been realigned to pass over the new bridges, the old bridge will be removed and the third and final bridge (also two thru-truss spans) will go in. The old Union Pacific (ex-Southern Pacific) bridge seen just to the right of the BNSF bridge will NOT be replaced. Work done further south where the BNSF San Jacinto Industrial Lead and the UP Riverside Industrial Lead use to cross at a diamond was changed to create a connector track. BNSF will now serve all customers on the old UP south of the now gone I-215 bridge.

The UP bridge from the L.A. sub to the BNSF at West Riverside (about 4 miles south of the bridge above) is in and has track over it and a switch is cut in as to expedite the cut over. Not sure when that is going to happen though. They will have to realign some track to get to the Metrolink station at Riverside.-BMT

BNSF has been serving those old UP customers for almost a year now.

Pretty cool. Interesting that bridge design hasn't changed much in a dozen decades. I guess men like Pratt and Warren knew what they were doing when it came to truss bridges.
