UP On The Fresno Sub: 1999
Author: CrudPunko

PARTY LIKE ITS 1999 - Oh wait! It IS 1999. On March 25 of that year UP C60AC 7520 rolls through Modesto CA with a northbound manifest on the Fresno Sub. While UP designated this 6000 hp model a C60AC, GE's catalog listed it as AC6000CW. The 7520 was built in July of 1998.

Modesto's famous arch, which proclaims "Water Wealth Contentment Health," has been used by railfans for decades as a prop for train photos. Up until early 2000 UP's Tidewater Sub ran down the middle of 9th Street and fans could actually frame trains with the arch. These days the best we can do is include the landmark in Fresno Sub images. (© KPR Media Services, all rights reserved)

Judging from the age of the automobiles and the lack of graffiti, I'd guess the third shot is somewhat earlier than 1999.

It is possible to frame UP trains on the ex-SP main in the arch, but it's a summertime morning shot rather than an afternoon shot.

Sorry gents - I forgot to mention that the caboose shot is from 1984.
