The wye for the UP former SP Phoenix Yard is next to the home of the Arizona Diambacks, which sits astride the Phoenix Subdivision mainline.In addition, the old University Spur/Industrial Lead is located here. Just the stem is left of this one time three mile long track.The ballpark is located in the downtown area of Phoenix,Az.The AAMPX is seen here wying their power shortly after arrival.Bill Webb

Begs a question, how many other mainline railroads pass very close to major league stadiums. Anaheim (Angels) and Safeco (Mariners) come to mind. And Camden Yards (Orioles) was a railroad yard. NYC used to go right by the old Yankee Stadium, is there still a railroad there, since the new stadium is located next to where the old one was?

The former Boston & Albany, NYC, PC, CR, CSX, and now MBTA main line passes by Fenway Park.

Oakland A's and Raiders - UP along parking lot.

I seem to recall seeing a Conrail train from the upper deck at a White Sox game at Comiskey Park back in 1999. Not sure whose line that would be now.

CSX runs very close to three different stadiums in downtown Indianapolis.

Nice catch, must be mayhem during a game! BNSF and Amtrak a spitting distance from Seattle Seahawks stadium.

LEVI STADIUM-New home of the 49ers. The SHARK TANK in San Jose, ca. AT&T PARK(S.F. GIANTS) is within walking distance of the CALTRAIN Station.

Not major league but the old Fairground Stadium in Louisville was just across I-65 from the NS Central Division route between Louisville (Youngstown Yard) and Danville, Ky. During a typical ballgame you could see 4 or 5 trains. Stadium seated up to 47,925, depending on configuration and the event. CSX ran about 1/3 of a mile to the west of the complex. Before that, the old stadium, Parkway Field had the L&N about a half a block east of the stadium. From the back of the grandstands you could see the L&N South Louisville Shops. If you were looking at those shops you had to look across the Southern Railway that crossed L&N about 200 yards from the stadium. That's the same NS tracks that pass the Fairgrounds about about 1 mile to the east. The University of Louisville "Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium (capacity 55,000) is in that same neighborhood. It's sitting where the L&N/CSX South Louisville Shops used to be. The north side of the parking and training facility has a fence between it and NS. To the west is a fence between the parking lot and the CSX tracks (3 tracks) just north of Osborn Yard. Slugger Field (capacity 13,131,) the minor league home of the triple A Louisville Bats baseball team is on the edge of the old B&O or C&O (I think) yard that was just east of downtown. It's about a half mile from the old Big Four bridge over the Ohio River. That bridge has been converted to a pedestrian bridge. The KFC Yum Center (capacity 22,000) home for the U of L Cardinal basketball team sits adjacent to the old C&O line that was taken out about 25 years ago. So, in Louisville it's hard to us to go to a major sporting event without being near the tracks or where they used to be. Glad you started this thread. It got me thinking about how much our local venues are related to the rails.

When I was in Indy in May, I noticed the old minor league baseball park had been converted into some cool condos, at least if you're a baseball fan.

Colorado Rockies ballpark was right at the temporary Amtrak station.

The tracks of the San Diego Trolley (Blue Line??) and BNSF pass right by Petco Park (home of the Padres) in San Diego's Gas Lamp Quarter.

Not Major League but rather Triple A, is the Reno Aces park with the UP main running next to the outfield fence as it exits the trench.

Not a Ballpark but a Nascar track. The NS main line runs right next to the Bristol Motor Speedy in Bristol, TN

Coor's Field is right next to the lower tracks of the UP and not far from the BNSF yard. I can remember coming back from Cheyenne with the Denver Post train and we made the local news when Lynn decided to "nuke" Coors Field with the 844. He overfired enough to send a smoke cloud over into the upper decks. It was reminiscent of the movies of the destroyers laying smoke screens in WWII. Well we were in the tool car watching tv and they announced on the game that they could see a cloud bank moving in until it hit. Then the explanations changed to "Oh it's that steam train".

UP former SP line runs along the right field fence at Texas A&M baseball stadium.

The Sunset Route travels through the trainway in El Paso that supports the right field side of the stadium of the AAA Baseball team, The Chihuahuas.

Cleveland Browns stadium is right by the Amtrak station.

Why wye back-to-back units?
