From my friend Ililton Iglima Sete Lagoas, MG Brasil It ain't all crap down there !!! Yukon Yeti Date: 01/20/15 04:38 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brasil - New Flare Author: junctiontower At least the cab has decent windshields!
Date: 01/20/15 05:17 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brazil - New Flare Author: snoopy51 mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Does the back metal step area look a little bent,?? Not even on the road and they bent it. loll yours snoopy Date: 01/20/15 06:15 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brasil - New Flare Author: RI768 Very nice!
Date: 01/20/15 06:20 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brazil - New Flare Author: sp8192 I think it is just an illusion. Look at the front one nearest to the trucks, it looks the same. Looks like the hand rail has a slight bend to it maybe for contour?

Dave Date: 01/20/15 08:39 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brazil - New Flare Author: CPR_4000 Built in Brazil:
http://www.railwayage.com/index.php/mechanical/locomotives/emd-opens-brazilian-locomotive-assembly-site.html The reason for the 8 axle configuration is that it's meter gauge. Since the traction motors are smaller than on standard gauge, more of them are needed to soak up the horsepower. Are these going to EFVM to replace the DDM45's? Edited 2 time(s). That truck arrangement looks neat...

Date: 01/20/15 11:03 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brasil - New Flare Author: MilwMike Well according to this, http://www.progressrail.com/cda/files/4689664/7/SD70ACe-BB_ENG_A4.pdf The cab design is new since it has a slight angle in when viewing it from the front.
It would be interesting to see if the B-B truck concept would ever come back to US railroads. MilwMike Date: 01/20/15 13:04 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brasil - New Flare Author: mmciau IIRC, there were many Engineers who were railing against the upright windscreen because it allowed extraneous lights, reflections and shadows to impact on the Engineer's vision. A 'lay-back' windscreen does not have that effect.

------------------------------------------------------- > Are these going to EFVM to replace the DDM45's? I can't confirm that as fact, but I assume these are being constructed for VLI / EFVM, which has been looking to replace their aging DDM45s. I believe they have 45 such units on order. Date: 01/20/15 17:20 Re: SD70BBACe Hot From Brasil - New Flare Author: fbe EMD is fine with the larger windshields it is the US railroads which want the cheaper, smaller rectangular glass which matches the same parts used on GEs. That way they only have to stock one size replacement for both manufactures.

The EMD window is both 1 inch taller and wider, either way cheaper than the old porkchops.

Good for them!

My experience with parts would tend to indicate that the cost of stocking the porkchop AND the new style glass will in the end eat up any perceived savings. It's one of those "can't see the forest for the trees" thing I fight all the time. The REAL cost savings in parts is in uniformity (fewer part numbers, less stock required) and reliability. Actual part cost ranks down the list. Example: I have 30 trucks. 10 have an AD9 air dryer #145.00 each, 10 with a Pure Air Plus dryer, $150.00 each, and 10 with an ADIP dryer $175.00 ea. I will have to stock one of each of the dryers for a total of $470. Now give me 30 trucks, all with the ADIP, $175.00 ea. BUT, I will only need to stock two, for a total of $350.00. THAT'S how you save money on parts, even if you buy the more expensive part.
