On the far left is a signal for northbound movements from the former West Valley Line. The signal next to the train protects the south switch of "Gerber".

Does that mean that that line is now useable from the south to the connection with the line to the north? If so, is it used? Finally, why does the signal have only two aspects rather than the usual three?

North Gerber is still at the north end of the siding. South Gerber has been the south end of the siding for a long time. Not sure when it was renamed from Tehama.
