Western Railroad Discussion > Passenger Special on the Yuma SubDate: 03/04/15 15:07 Passenger Special on the Yuma Sub Author: TheNavigator The 19-car UP passenger special which yesterday ran from Roseville, Calif. to the LA Harbor moved east today from LA to Tucson. The consist was the same as listed in BDPerry's post and IOTD at http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3679344,3679344#3679344
Under a sunny sky with pleasant temperatures, I headed out to the Beaumont Hill area to catch today's move over the Yuma Sub. Predictably, the train wasted no time but I did manage to capture images at two locations before returning home via West Colton. Thanks for looking, GK 1. and 2. The view from the Portrero Boulevard bridge in Beaumont. 3. At West Palm Springs. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/04/15 15:08 by TheNavigator. The "Officer's Specials" are run by either pool crews, or extra board personnel. V SLOCONDR Date: 03/04/15 17:39 Re: Passenger Special on the Yuma Sub Author: Cajon92 Very nice captures, Gary. Ronda Thomas Date: 03/04/15 20:40 Re: Passenger Special on the Yuma Sub Author: trainupaboy Sure is a beautiful train, but i just cant get used to the baggage car being way back in the middle...just look out of place.
Date: 03/04/15 22:49 Re: Passenger Special on the Yuma Sub Author: The_Chief_Way yes it does look out of place..I think its present role is for exercise equipment, not bagage storage

Bob Date: 03/05/15 09:18 Re: Passenger Special on the Yuma Sub Author: run8 Does anybody know how these special movement trains are staffed? Do they use Union Pacific employees to fill slots such as server, porters, dishwashers, cooks or bartenders? Do they get cooks from a catering company? Even if they use cooks from an employment agency cooking in a diner type kitchen environment is completely different from cooking in a restaurant. Who purchases the food provisions? And then there is the dirty laundry. I can't imagine them having full time dedicated employees that are only used several times a year.

As the years went by and DC&H men retired the crews on the specials were augmented by contractors. I don't know if there are any DC&H guys left.
