CN grain train through Dunsmuir this morning
Author: photobob

Got up at the crack of clouds this morning to chase the CN grain train. The crack of clouds was a really cool lighting storm that blew through here this morning.

Heres some more. The weather improved as we headed south..

Photo#4 Along the Sacramento River at Gibson.

Photo#5 Crossing Salt Creek Trestle. This location would be under about thirty feet of water with a normal year.

Photo#6 The DPU's passing over the old Highway 99 bridge high and dry.

Nice but the last two don't give me any warm fuzzies about the state of our water supply.

Thanks for catching this. I swear they schedule these only on days I have to work early.

Nice to see locomotives with red noses and black long hoods in the Sacramento River Canyon.  A clean matched set, no less.

There's an interesting CalTrans Roadcam that overlooks the I-5 Pit River bridge, you can watch the water circling the drain, click on the area near the Lake and then the red dot off the road next to the I-5 bridge, it's called Bass Mountain:

Drove over the bridge last night, I've seen the Lake a lot worse but can't speak to time of year or volume;  This morning the Weather guys are getting all excited about Ocean warming already.

Great shots, but pathetic water level in Sac River... looks as bad or worse than the Truckee.  Pray for snow/rain this coming winter...
