Why does it take close to 12 hours for the circus train to do a 105 mile trip from Anahiem to San Diego when i've seen other freight trains do the same trip in about 3 hours? Another post here on T.O. has the trip at about 12 hours. Oh well nice pix anyway Chris.

Lots of Amtrak and Metrolink trains during the day, and mostly single track south of Irvine.

The train has to fit into a slot after Metrolink commuter train rush. Then the train can do it in a straight shot.

The train fits between slots.
Crummy handling/dispatching between County Line and San Diego is the target answer.

BNSF crew that pulled this train down to SDG was on duty just shy of 16 hours by the time they vanned back to Hobart Yard in Los Angeles to tie-up... Blood money.

Nice pictures Chris.  Interesting collection of passenger cars, as usual.  Unfortuntely, when the train comes to the PNW, BNSF hides it away in Delta Yard making it nearly impossible to photograph and obtain car histories.

Here's a shot from the camera of JOSHUA WILLIAM WILKINSON, who works in the Pie Car aboard the Red Unit, showing the Circus Train (from the end-car of another cut of coaches) at dusk, July 31, in Anaheim.
