Western Railroad Discussion > Bird Point, AlaskaDate: 08/26/15 16:02 Bird Point, Alaska Author: mtgteam2 I have been wanting to explore this area on the Alaska Railroad for some time now and managed to do so twice over the last couple of weeks. I was able to shoot 4 trains along various spots along the big curve near MP 81 where previously I have only shot from the highway over pass. I will include a couple from the overpass as well but I figure I probably have posted those two previously. 8 photos total
1. First up is this southbound coal train rounding said curve on a very nice Wednesday afternoon, this was shot at 12:02 PM during the high sun period. 2. A week and a day later I was out again and managed this sot of the Glacier Discovery on the same curve but a different vantage point. 3. This little passenger train runs with power on both ends to facilitate numerous changes of direction. More to come. Date: 08/26/15 16:07 Re: Bird Point, Alaska Author: mtgteam2 4. Next up is the cruise train headed north. This train also runs with power on both ends. Which can be helpful.
5. After the two passenger trains next up was the southbound coal train. I moved over to get a different view from last weeks train. 6. A little closer view of the same train. 2 more to follow. Date: 08/26/15 16:13 Re: Bird Point, Alaska Author: mtgteam2 7. Bird Point as seen from the highway in Winter.
8. Bird Point as seen from the highway in the Summer. Thanks for looking, Frank Keller Anchorage, AK Date: 08/26/15 16:23 Re: Bird Point, Alaska Author: Forever-Railfan-45 OMG on seven and eight. Not sure which one I like more: the mountains in the background or the fog. Excellent work !!!

------------------------------------------------------- > Are any of these July pics at Bird Point? I > didn't even know about this location until now... Your first picture is at the north switch of Brookman and your second photo is at Bird Point just shy of where the road crosses the tracks. Frank Date: 08/27/15 03:36 Re: Bird Point, Alaska Author: milepost180 I miss the "Bird House"
Date: 08/27/15 04:03 Re: Bird Point, Alaska Author: rschonfelder Can you tell us what is the approximate date of your winter shot (#7)? With limited snow and strong sunlight, it does not look like the height of winter so I am just curious.
Some great shots for sure. Rick Date: 08/27/15 04:15 Re: Bird Point, Alaska Author: jmbreitigan Amazing photos and you certainly earned IOTD with your last shot.
