Temple, TX Program, 2 pm September 26- Invitation to All
Author: Eagle22

The South Central States Chapter of the Railroad and Locomotive Historical Society invites you to its September 26th program at 2 pm on the 3rd Floor of the Temple Library, located at 100 West Adams Avenue.  Mr. Sid Covington, Lone Star Rail District executive committee chair, will be discussing the history and future of the Austin-San Antonio commuter rail corridor from plan to reality.
LSTAR was formed in 2003 after TXDOT assessed an existing Union Pacific route between Austin and San Antonio feasible for use as a commuter rail corridor. The overwhelming desire of the general public and city representatives for alternate transportation prompted the passage of Proposition 2 in 2005. Proposition 2, Texas Rail Relocation Fund, makes funding available ,via state, federal, and local city governments, for use toward the relocation and development of a new rail line.  LSTAR is run by a Board of Directors made up of elected and private sector officials who represent the corridor’s member cities and counties between Georgetown and San Antonio. The purpose of LSTAR  is to gain ownership of existing rail line from Union Pacific and to relocate it to a new route between Seguin and Taylor.  The existing freight route would then be improved to passenger train operation standards complete with the installation of sixteen passenger stations.
