When Is It MY Turn?
Author: ATSF2921

I'm not a railroader, but I can understand sitting and waiting at a signal is not the most fun in the world, especially when traffic runs around and by you for a period of time.

1 - BNSF 7342 leads a w/b container train down off the flyover and heading into Argentine.  Tracks curving to the left lead to Santa Fe JCT.  He stopped at 12th street, so I went over there to catch him again.  This was shot from the 7th St. overpass.

2 - W/b in 1st photo sitting in background.  I missed a going away shot of the front end of an e/b, but managed to get the DPU.

3 - Manifest comes around the corner and sits at its signal.  Maybe BNSF 7342 gets a signal now??

..more to follow.

Not yet.

4 - Another w/b runs around 7342.  Manifest gets a signal to come in.  7342 still sits.

5 - Closer shot of manifest.

6 - I noticed that the switch points were lined against 7342.  A quick look behind me shows an e/b waiting to get out.  Said e/b now crosses over towards the South main and heads towards the flyover.  Same manifest crawling into the yard on left.

An hour later, 7342 was still sitting at 12th street.  I don't know when he was finally able to move.

All shots taken 9/26/15 in Argentine/Kansas City, Ks.

Thanks for looking.

Great photos, Russell! I've never seen a shot from the 7th Street overpass - looks like a neat angle I'll have to try sometime.

Great series of images, thanks.  They have a kind of "golden glow" that is very seasonally appealing.
And here we are, with a "heat advisory" for tomorrow.  Yeah, I'm ready for Fall, Halloween. etc.  (-:
Thanks again.

An angle I hadn't seen pix of before.  I had to look up 7th St. on GoogleMaps-  https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0743476,-94.6238159,18z/data=!3m1!1e3  Their aerial view has 3 trains.  The Kansas River is just off to the left, visible after the leaves drop?  If you go back after the leaves drop, please post a picture.

Why didn't you call us earlier". ( "well, we did two hours ago, then fell asleep") or, "You're still out there? I thought I told you to tied it down and call yourself a cab two hours ago".  (no, you didn't)

My guess would've been one of them.

Not sure when I'll be back to the 7th street overpass, but the better view of the Kansas river to tie in with a RR shot after all the leaves have fallen would be from 12th street.

telling a traincrew to call their own taxi?  That's one I have never heard before....

At KC, it was common to tell us that, before the cell phone ban of course, and they had their own taxi channel we could switch over to.

Russell:

Great shots!

Does the 7th street bridge have a sidewalk or were dodging traffic?

Jeff,

It has a walkway on the east side seperated from traffic.

I have a question about that. I had always assumed (as a non-rail) that both switch points for a cross over were operated by the same signal, meaning they were both either lined for straight movement or both line for cross over. Obviously this is not the case, at least not in this setup.

Is that normal, or are there times with both sets are operated by the same signal?
