Western Railroad Discussion > Las Vegas Action 11/9-11/12

I had work engagements in Las Vegas the week of 11/9, but luckily got to slip in a few trains in between meetings and whatnot.

1) Just before sunset on Monday 11/9, train ICSCIR06 (Canal Street [Chicago] to City of Industry Repositioning containers) runs between the sidings of Garnet and Apex.

2) West of Apex in the fading light, the 4706 crosses the Apex Underpass which uses an old UP intermodal flat as the access road bridge adjacent to the rail bridge.

3) With snow rarely associated with Las Vegas, I had to snap this photo of the Valley Local (LUM42) working in the industrial park southeast of the yard. Local buisness is pretty good in the area as he had 17 cars coming out of the park.

4) Wednesday morning, with over 7500 feet of K Line containers in tow, train ITSAHX09 slowly rolls upgrade out of Las Vegas towards Valley.

5) I was surprised because immediately after taking the high green at the west end of Valley the train came to a sudden stop.

6) The LUM42 crew walks over and starts checking on the FRED of the eastbound stacker. 3 hours later he would barely be 20 miles up the line with a dog catch crew already in the works out of Milford, UT.​​

7) On Thursday 11/12 class let out after lunch, and with a few hours before my flight I headed down to Arden to see what was going on. Amazingly, the searchlight signals at the west end of Arden are still in service. It looks like their days are certainly numbered. The approach yellow beckoned an impending eastbound.

8) Train ZLADV12 rounds the big sweeping curve into Arden.

9) ZLADV glides down the main for a crew change while MWCNP11 occupies the siding to make a pickup out of the yard.​​

10) Coming out of downtown in full dynamics, KG1LAC10 (Global 1 - Los Angeles Priority Intermodal) pulls up to a red signal at Maule Ave.

11) Rolling up towards Boulder Jct where he'll hang a right onto the Henderson branch, local LUM48 rolls past Maule Ave with 23 cars in tow.

12) Getting his nearly 10,000 feet of train moving again, KG1LAC takes the diverging clear at Maule Ave heading for a crew change at Arden.​​

13) Close on the heels of the KG1LAC ahead, MNPWC10 eases out of downtown with only an approach signal to work with at Maule Ave.

14) In a multi-modal shot, MNPWC meets an inbound Southwest 737 on approach to McCarran Intl.

15) The DPU on MNPWC gives John Lennon's hair some definite heat distortion as I had to get going for the airport and my flight back to SLC.​​

Greatly enjoyed the series.   Nice photography and a fun location to explore.

Thanks for sharing your series, I rarely get close to the tracks any more, so it was nice to see familair stations and photo locations.

Boy, I would be hard pressed to guess that 3rd shot was taken in Vegas! A Great series and nice framing with the SouthWest jet and the Trump Tower.
