In a few seconds bells will go off, flashing barricade arms will lower into position and this tranquil twilight crossing scene will EXPLODE with blinding light and the furious sounds of rolling interstate commerce. Two digital sensors will go to work, their operators ignoring all else. Invisible miniature dust tornadoes will swirl. Dark shapes will pass by in a systematic cadence… Just as quickly the cacophony will subside behind a rhythmic flashing red light and… …all is again quiet. The western fireclouds have become dark golden embers. The stars have come out to play… 1.
