Gloaming between the trains...
Author: santafe199

…and all is quiet. The crickets have gone to bed for the year. What little traffic noise there is from the nearby Interstate is muffled out of the immediate conscience. The thin clouds crackling with sunset fire on the western horizon can almost be heard. There is a silent purple darkness above, cool to the touch. Presently there emerges a distant familiar rumble. Then there is a pinpoint of light…

In a few seconds bells will go off, flashing barricade arms will lower into position and this tranquil twilight crossing scene will

Just as quickly
the cacophony will subside behind a rhythmic flashing red light and

…all is again quiet. The western fireclouds have become dark golden embers. The stars have come out to play…
