Author: tc

Well I heard that amtrak was running a special over the loop (thanks dan) so off I went for the chase. The special was way ahead of its schedule so I missed some mojave shots I was able to finally catch it as it was making its way W/B or N/B through the tunnels along the 58 freeway 1st & 2nd shots, The 3rd shot is an attempt at a loop shot with the special.

That's interesting that they ran the special that way!
I don't suppose we can read anything into that at all?
I know it isn't time competitive to run LAX to BFD,
but I sure wish someday they could run a section of the SW Chief
BAR to BFD.  You certainly documented the special well!

Interesting!  The same cars were on the rear of Amtrak #29, Brunswick, MD, 5/26/16.  A friend indicated that these were "Mr. Boardman's cars."  Gerry

Those are some great shots, sir.  Amd you nailed
the meet!  Great catch!  Thanks so much for taking
all of these -- this nice serices is so much better than
just one or two photos.  And now we know where the
10031 full dome is.  And the Loop area is kinda pretty
in its own way.

What did that sign on the "Beech Grove" say?

Looked like a nice trip through the Tehachapi area.  So glad
you were able to chase and photograph this rare move.

About 5 years ago, CalTrans Division of Rail at the request the San Joaquine Rail Committee looked into the possibility of running 718 over the Loop and then down through Palmdale into L.A.  The conclusion was that the only possible way it could be done was to have 718 park for 3 hours somewhere between Mojave and Palmdale. They got their usual reply from UP of not only no but HELL NO.  The study also determined that ridership would most likely be next to nothing.
