BNSF Crash Panhandle, TX.

This doesn't look good at all.....  BNSF 7907 is one of the motors.

Any word on the condition of the crews?

Ouch. Yes that doesn't look good one bit. Hope all the crew members made it but it doesn't look promising.

My understanding is PTC is in use on the Herford Sub. Which connects to the Panhandle sub where this accident occurred. Has PTC been put into use here? It would be something interesting if PTC was active and there still was a head on.

The Panhandle Sub is 2MT CTC (at least at this location)?

Yes.  And the nearest crossovers appear to be about 2 miles east and 6 miles west of the apparent site of the incident.

Dave, it stands for Two Main Tracks.

Just seen the 'Service Interruption' message and decided to go to TO. Z-trains to possibly be rerouted at Vaughn on the Clovis Sub.

Two Main Track Centralized Traffic Control.  Trains can operate in either direction on either track on signal indication.

There is a ~13,000 ft siding off of Main 1 at Panhandle.

I was looking at a video on one of the Amarillo TV stations and someone recorded part of the derailment.  Looks like one train with DPU was stopped on one of the tracks, maybe siding, while the other was moving and derailed.
Hopefully there are no injuries or fatalities.

Could be a few detours via Raton.

An update on the site said the following:

"10:40 AM NewsChannel 10 has just confirmed at least one victim of this crash has been taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.  We do know the patient is in stable condition."

Let's hope for more of that!

Is this on the double main Chicago-Los Angeles transcon route? What are possible detour routes?

what a dope ... the woman asks the guy filming "ARE YOU CALLING"  the guy answers "NO TRUST ME THEY KNOW" ... a call to 911 should've been made ASAP by THAT GUY because "THEY DON'T KNOW" ...  not that fast ... don't look good every way around ... hope all ok and any injured can recover ...

With 2 MT and a siding, at what distance could a crewmember determine the imminent headon collision? Of course, in CTC territory, one would wonder how two trains eneded up on the same track?

the general answer to your general question depends on whether on tangent or a curve .... i have no particulars on the PCs of this area
