Tacoma Rail's newest Locomotive -TMBL 2316
Author: DelMonteX

Earlier in the month I posted some photos of freshly delivered TMBL 2316.   2316 Discussion

Yesterday evening (Sunday 8/27) the locomotive finally entered service.   After getting re-decaled so Tacoma Rail was spelled as two words, and then a trip back across the road to Progress Rail to fix some small issues, it was outfitted with a radio and started work.

Its first job was working with the old workhorse 3802 to service U.S. Oil.

I caught them about ready to make a second trip there, this time delivering a nice long cut of oil tank cars.

1) Crew getting a job breifing with Mt Rainier looming in the background.

2) One of TR's other clean loco, TMBL 2100 - genset) is also about ready to start work as the 2316 and 3802 head out with the oil.  Mt Rainier is still looming (does that a lot, you just can't always see it).

3) As daylight fades to the blue hour, the train is pulling down past the SIM yard for its backup move through the curve (one leg of what is relatively new wye) along Lincoln Ave.

4) This job brought enough cars for three of the six tracks at US Oil, so they need to make three moves for the delivery.   The last cut has just been spotted, as the train sits against the background of Washington United Terminal (WUT?).
You can also see the difference in lettering here.  The 2316 looked much like the 3802, which appears to have the name spelled as one word.

5) Out the gates of US Oil and heading back to the Muni Yard.

6) A little pace shot as they are about ready to take one of the legs (I didn't wait to see which one) wye back to the Muni, along Lincoln Ave.  Note the difference in the nose treatment.

Nice images.    Does Rainier always have that much snow on it for late August?

Could be early snow. Some parts of Colorado in the Sangre De Cristo's are already getting some.  Ben

The summer has been mild, but the amount of snow is pretty much typical.  There are glaciers on the mountain as well, which might not be around for a whole lot longer.  B

Great photos Steve..  No new snow build up yet on Rainier.  The "snow" that you see in the photo for the most part are glaciers.  In the top two photos on the left you can see the summit glacier and its thickness. As it moves it breaks off and falls down Willis Wall..North side of the mountain.

Thanks Ben.

As Roger said, most of what looks like snow are glaciers.

Here's a shot from August 2007.  From my untrained eye, looks pretty darn similar.

For contrast, the second shot if from April 2014.

I like that "plume of steam" coming from the crater.

Nah, just a passing cloud that got "stuck".  It was gone about a half hour later.

That's an outstanding set of photos. I was in Seattle briefly last week (flying in from the East Coast) and unfortunately was not able to make the drive to Tacoma to see its port. Haven't been to Tacoma for quite a few years.
